European BJJ championship Lisbon 21,22,23,24,25/Jan2015

With 3400 register athletes and after 5 continuend days one the most important championship in the world came to an end.With athletes coming from all over the world the 2015 European championship was the bigest event even in the history of bjj.
Aspida Team members Panos Petralis, Kiriakos Theodorou, Helios Demange and Andreas Achniotis
participate at the event. Unfortunately 2 of the athletes lost by advantage at the quarter finals. Overall  very good performance from all 4 guys.

Now is time to fix the mistakes and hopefully next year we will come back victorious !

On 21st of December, 3 ATRG members Andreas Kailas,Kiriakos Theodorou and Giorgos Hajilazarou Compete in submission only super fight event! 

Very proud of the performance of our athletes all 3 fights end with Draw but all athletes show high Brazilian Jiu Jitsu level!

Leo D'Avilla Atos team seminar 2-3/Dec/2014

As Aspida Team Academy, we would like to express our thanks to Prof. Leo D'Avila for the exciting two day GI/NO-GI Seminars we had this week!

In the packed academy, we had a 2 day seminar on some interesting aspects of Brazilian Jiujitsu, as taught by world class BJJ practitioners. 

It was an honor to have him visit the academy and we look forward to having the professor back for another seminar in the near future.

Octavio 'Ratinho' Couto Seminar 25/Nov/2014

Dear ATRG Members,
it was an honor and a pleasure to have one of the most renowned BJJ Black Belts of the world, trainer to so many UFC fighters and BJJ Masters, and an overall great human beiing, Prof. Octavio 'Ratinho' Couto, yesterday for a two hour seminar at our Academy.

The two hour 'BJJ Clinic', took place and a few VERY important and vital aspects of BJJ were stressed.

We , as an Academy as a whole, wish to thank prof Prof. Octavio 'Ratinho' Couto for the honor he gave us to visit our Academy!

WPJJC Athens trials 23/Nov/2014

Με δυο μετάλλια επέστρεψε στην Κύπρο η αποστολή της Aspida Team Cyprus η οποία συμμετείχε με τέσσερις αθλητές  στα προκριματικά του Παγκοσμίου WPJJC jiu jitsu (παγκόσμια ομοσπονδία UAEJJF).  Σε αγώνες που πραγματοποιήθηκαν την Κυριακή στο Ολυμπιακό στάδιο στα Άνω Λιόσια ο Ανδρέας Αχνιώτης στην open κατηγορία -75kg (καφέ/μαύρης ζώνης) κατέκτησε το αργυρό μετάλλιο και ο Πάνος Πετραλλής  στην open κατηγορία στην μπλέ ζώνη, μετά απο πέντε νικηφόρους αγώνες έχασε στα προημιτελικά, όμως κέρδισε στον μικρό τελικο, κατακτώντας το χάλκινο μετάλλιο.
Αρχηγός της αποστολής ήταν ο head coach της Asida Team Cyprus and Greece, Παντελής Παναγίδης. Με την θέληση και το πάθος τους για το άθλημα θεωρείται δεδομένο οτι στο μέλλον θα υπάρξουν ανάλογες επιτυχίες.

Με μεγάλη επιτυχία πραγματοποιήθηκαν οι πρωτοι παγκύπριοι αγώνες brazilian jiu jitsu με συνολικά 102 συμμετοχές. Στην ανοικτή κατηγορία (ανεξαρτήτως κιλών) που έγινε το πρωί του Σαββάτου στο Τσίρειο, διακρήθηκαν οι  Μανώλης Χατζιδάκης (άσπρη ζώνη), Πανος Πετραλλής (μπλέ ζώνη) και Παναγιώτης  Ζαβρός (καφέ και λιλά ζώνη). Να σημειώσουμε οτι αυτοί οι τρεις αθλητές, οι οποίοι εντυπωσίασαν με την απόδοση τους, κέρδισαν εισιτήριο για τα προκριματικά του παγκοσμίου πρωταθλήματος WPJJC Trials που θα γίνουν στην Αθήνα στις  23 του Νοέμβρη.

Andrea Baggio Biography

Andrea Baggio was born in Milano on the 6th of June, 1978. He started learning martial arts as a child, namely Judo, and it was because of Judo that Andrea got interested in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He started learning BJJ as a way to improve his newazza (Judo ground work) in 2000 with Gustavo Fernandez Triviño who was at the time a purple belt under Freddy Sukata (Triviño later became a black belt and moved to Argentina where he teaches BJJ). Baggio didn’t pursue his Jiu Jitsu education with Fernandez for long, moving to Federico Tisi’s camp in that same year.

Andrea Baggio was awarded all belts by Frederico Tisi, including his black belt on January 2008, just after Baggio won the European Open (IBJJF) in the Brown Belt Master Division.

Despite his engineering degree at Politecnico di Milano, he dedicated himself full time to BJJ working at Milanimal Academy in Milan since he was a purple belt, giving private and group classes. He is also the promoter and founder of one of the most important Italian Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament, MILANO CHALLENGE.

Με την σειρά μου θα ήθελα να ευχαριστήσω όλα τα παιδία από το AspidaTeam Cyprus για την πολύ σημαντική βοήθεια που μας παρείχαν σε σχέση με το στήσιμο του χώρου, την διεξαγωγή των αγώνων (ως γραμματειακό προσωπικο) και την υπομονή και ζήλο που έδειξαν κατα την διάρκεια των αγώνων.
Θελω επίσης να ευχαριστήσω τους διαιτητές Andrea Baggio, Πανικό Μελωδία, Αργύρη Αργυριδη και Αlex Καλλή για την σημαντική βοήθεια στην οργάνωση των αγώνων και την άψογη διαιτησία τους.
Συγχαρητήρια αξίζουν επίσης σε όλους τους προπονητές των ομάδων που συμμετείχαν και στους αθλητές των, τόσο για την συνεργασία τους όσο και για την άριστη συμπεριφορά τους εντός και εκτός του ματ.
Αν οι αγώνες αυτοί απέδειξαν κάτι σε όλους μας, είναι η κοινή μας αγάπη για το BJJ, και ότι οι στόχοι μας είναι κοινοί: η ανάδειξη και η εξέλιξη του κυπριακού Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Ο Πάνος Πετραλλης BJJ στο ADCC European championship Bulgaria 11 Oct.

Αναχώρησε χθες ο Κύπριος αθλητής Brazilian jiu jistu Πάνος Πετράλλης για το πανευρωπαϊκό πρωτάθλημα επαγγελματικού grappling ADCC.

Οι αγώνες θα διεξαχθούν στην Σόφια της Βουλγαρίας Σάββατο 11/10.

Να αναφέρουμε ότι ο Κύπριος αθλητής είναι κάτοχος Χρυσού μεταλλίου σε πανελλήνιο πρωτάθλημα και διεθνές τουρνουά στην Ιταλία.

Δίπλα του σε όλη την προετοιμασία η ομάδα του Aspida Team Renzo Gracie Cyprus και ο προπονητής του Ανδρέας Αχινωτης.

With the return of our founder, Professor Pantelis, we had an anniversary seminar which all instructors (Pantelis Panayides, Andreas Achniotis Perales, Panikos Melodias and Alexis Kallis) showed new techniques at. We enjoyed a party afterward with beers and a BBQ. 

Thank you to all of you who attended. This reunion / anniversary is a tribute to our growing Aspida family.

Finger Taping

After 20 years of practicing several 'grip' fighting sports like judo and BJJ,  I decided to offer some advice on how to tape your fingers for such sports. When you practice on a daily basis and prepare for competitions, you don't have the time to take breaks to let the inflammation go away, so prevention is better than cure.
